The concept is quite simple.
Inmates learn a marketable skill while serving time, a skill they
will be able to use when they re-enter society. Maine inmates have
had a long tradition of creating beautiful pieces from wood native
to the state, and Woods to Goods is an authorized retail dealership
for these works.
Inmates have also created
heirloom-quality furniture which we proudly carry in our store.
Here you will find cabinets, benches, tables and more, made with
pride and care -- a perfect addition to your home.
And because we are located
on the coast of Maine, it is only fitting that we specialize in
the nautical. Inside you will find finely-detailed ship's models
and decorative anchors and ship wheels reminiscent of a time when
sailors spent long ocean-going hours crafting enduring works from
wood. You'll even find sea chests that any sailor would be happy
to call their own.
We are also proud to carry
the "Prison Blues" line of clothing made by inmates from
Oregon. We think you will be pleased with the quality and durability
of the jeans, sweatshirts, T-shirts, work shirts and more that we
offer in our store. As they say in their catch slogan, these clothes
are "Made on the Inside to be Worn on the Outside."
We supplement the inmates'
goods with nautical and Maine-inspired work by many local artisans.
Among the hundreds of items we carry, you will find handmade jewelry,
a fine selection of bird houses (including one made from a lobster
buoy!), children's toys, kitchenware, cedar jewelry boxes, scrimshaw
and much, much more.
